(1) Topic for empirical study (10 points):
Identify a focus for your project. Narrow down to one concept with operational definition. Use it
as key word to review literature. It will also be the major variable of your own empirical study.
(2) Literature Review (40 points):
-Use your topic as key word to review textbook readings and additional resources. Identify and
explain relevant concepts, principles, theories, etc. on this topic.
-Use your topic as key word to find 2 relevant peer-reviewed empirical studies published after
2000, full text, with “Method” section, from the Library’s Psychology databases. For each article:
-Provide APA style Reference, and the “Abstract” section of each article
-Identify research question and hypothesis. Clearly identify major variables and
relationship between variables. (based on the Title and the “Abstract” section of each article)
-Analyze research method (based on the “Method” section of each article)

-measurements for each variable
-procedure of study
-Describe findings and conclusion (skip the statistics)
(3) Research Question and Hypothesis of your own empirical study (10 points):
Based on your topic, deductive reasoning, and literature review of empirical studies, plan your
own empirical study. Generate your own research question and hypothesis. Clearly identify 2-3 variables
(including your topic) with operational definition, and clearly state the logical relationship between them.
(4) Concise PowerPoint slides with References in APA style (10 points).
Your PowerPoint slides should be concise and focused. It is NOT an essay or paper, but rather
highlights your key points. Include APA-style References on the last slide of your PPT.
(5) Critical thinking (10 points):
Evaluate above perspectives from readings, empirical studies, etc. Effectively argue for your own.
(6) Application to the real-world experience (10 points).
Provide real-life examples and supporting materials (e.g. picture, video, etc.) to enrich your
presentation. Connect learning from this topic to real-world observation, experience, etc.
